Value based management - without values?

This morning  I had a discussion with a highly skilled prof, who has decided to seek new opportunities, frustrated because she does not feel that her employers values fit her.

Today's discussion was not the first on the subject - without being able to produce firm statistics on the subject - I will claim that more than 2 out of 3 times that I am approached with the same objective this issue is mentioned as a major reason for the move.

Now I am wondering: Every company on their website state their values as a list of pluswords, however in the urge for creating results have these values been scrutinised in order to secure that they actually reflect the company brand?

No doubt no progress, no results, no survival - is it then worthwhile to consider how you create the stunning results?
